Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen is taking a hard look at his team's performance during the ongoing Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

He's particularly focused on addressing certain shortcomings, or "stinks," as he candidly refers to them.

One major concern is the decline in the run game, especially in the latter half of the previous season.

Coen emphasized the need for a balanced offensive approach, stating, "If we attack it with the same exact mindset and mentality in both the run and the pass, we're going to end up where we ended up last year, and that's not good enough."

Statistics from the 2025 season highlight this issue.

In the first 12 weeks, the Jaguars averaged 128.1 rushing yards per game, ranking eighth in the NFL, with 4.4 yards per carry.

However, during weeks 13 to 18, these numbers dropped to 91.2 yards per game (27th) and 3.3 yards per carry (31st).

To address this, Coen is focusing on enhancing both the run and pass games.

He clarified, "So for us to click on all cylinders, both the run and the pass marriage is important. And I'm not saying we're going to rush for 130 every single week for 17 weeks. That's not realistic."

The departure of top running back Travis Etienne Jr. to the New Orleans Saints in free agency has left a significant gap.

The Jaguars acquired Chris Rodriguez Jr. in a trade, and he's expected to take on a leading role, provided he can meet the team's expectations.

If Rodriguez falls short, sophomores Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. are poised to step up, both having made notable contributions as rookies last season.

Coen remarked on the competition, saying, "It's a wide-open room. The guys that we have in the room, all three of them are going to be better when you play 11-on-11 tackle football than right now in t-shirts and shorts. Their game is based on physicality, toughness, breaking tackles, extra yards, the hidden yards in a game that we're just not going to see out here."

As the Jaguars continue their OTAs, the focus remains on refining their strategies to ensure a more robust and balanced offensive performance in the upcoming season.
